WMS Makes Changes to 2017 Annual Meeting

The 2017 Wyoming Medical Society Annual Meeting is set for Jackson Lake Lodge in Grand Teton National Park.

CHEYENNE – Before the Wyoming Medical Society renovated its basement at 122 East 17th Street in Cheyenne last year, staff shuffled through 40 years of meeting notes, business transactions and other assorted memories.

One box stood out – it contained photos, scrapbooks, and even hand puppets used in plays by the wives of WMS doctors used during WMS Annual Meetings of years past. One of the biggest differences noted in the photos was the presence of physician families.

The 2017 WMS Annual Meeting Planning Committee has made some changes in hopes of making the Annual Meeting a more family-friendly event. The Annual Meeting will now feature fewer hours of CME and more free time to spend time in the Yellowstone region. WMS will now offer medical education lectures in the morning and free time in the afternoons.

“When you look at the feedback we have received from our Annual Meeting surveys, many of the comments have asked for more time to spend with family while in one of the most beautiful settings on earth,” said WMS Executive Director Sheila Bush.

In the name of helping Wyoming physicians and their families find activities to do WMS has worked through both Jackson Lake Lodge and the Jackson Chamber of Commerce for a list of things to do for all ages. Here is a list of activities that originate from Jackson Lake Lodge each day. Here is a list from Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce if you are staying in town or would just like to try something different than what is offered at the lodge.

If you like what you see, contact the lodge or the group offering the activity directly. WMS is not organizing these activities, so telling WMS staff you want to go rafting won’t get you anywhere close to the river.

For those who are seeking more CME credit or aren’t interested in available activities, the Wyoming Association of Physician Assistants (WAPA) will hold its Annual Meeting in conjunction with the WMS Annual Meeting and CME credits are available by joining WAPA for its Annual Meeting in the afternoons.
