A Welcome Letter from Wyoming Chapter President, Dean Bartholomew, MD

Wyoming Family Physicians-

Hello to all of you and I hope that you are enjoying this wonderful Wyoming summer as much as I am!

I wanted to write you a quick note to provide some updates on your Wyoming Academy of Family Physician (WAFP) as well as some exciting opportunities.

In June, the WAFP held it’s annual meeting in conjunction with the Wyoming Medical Society annual meeting in Jackson.  We spent a significant amount of our time discussing training opportunities…and especially leadership training.

One facet of this training is the inaugural Wyoming Leaders in Medicine Physician Leadership Academy sponsored by the WMS.  Several WAFP members are involved in the organization of this new and exciting opportunity which will allow for a group of physicians to receive leadership training while visiting seven different Wyoming communities over the span of a year.  We are looking for several family physicians to be a part of this inaugural class.  Please email me (drbart93@gmail.com) or Sheila Bush

(Sheila@wyomed.org) at the WMS if you have any interest.

The second facet of physician training is to provide scholarships for WAFP members interested in CME/Leadership training opportunities.  In the last several years we have sponsored a handful of folks to attend events like the AAFP FMX.  We are looking at ways to invest our funds to ensure scholarships will be available for years to come.  If you would be interested in a scholarship for leadership training please contact me.

One other item that is going to be my focus over the next several years is passing along education and training on the MACRA program.  Of course there are plenty of great resources out there if one were to go looking, but I will try to pass along opportunities that should be relevant to you while at the same time being mindful that I don’t want to flood your email inbox.  One such opportunity is from the ABFM who is offering FREE registration to the PRIME Registry to the first 2,000 board-certified family physicians.  I hope that most of you are aware of the MIPS/MACRA requirements for data submission this year and as far as I can tell through my readings, the submission needs to be completed through a registry-type tool.  Many of you will likely have this through your EMR vendor, but some may not.  The PRIME Registry appears to be a viable registry option if you do not have this access.  Please see the attached information.

The second order of business at the annual WAFP meeting was the election of new officers.  I am fortunate to get the opportunity to head up the leadership team as the President of the WAFP over the next two years.  Joining me will be Sarah Durney, MD, from Powell as Vice-President as well as Spencer Weston, MD, from Evanston acting as our Sec/Treasurer.  I am excited to work with these young docs to bring you a WAFP product that benefits you on many levels!  Please do not hesitate to contact me with any concerns or questions at drbart93@gmail.com.
