Position Announcement: Assistant Dean for Rural Programs

The University of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM) Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho Program (WWAMI) has a position available for a .75 FTE Assistant Dean.  The Assistant Dean for Rural Programs will be accountable directly to the Associate Dean for Curriculum and will be responsible for: Leadership, coordination and development of rural academic programs at the UWSOM.

These currently include RUOP (Rural Underserved Opportunities Program), WRITE (WWAMI Rural Integrated Training Experience) and TRUST (Targeted Rural Under Served Track). This will include leading strategic planning related to these programs, oversight of day-to-day operations, working with departments, working with WWAMI Regional Deans and representing the programs with the UWSOM governance committees. The Assistant Dean for Rural Programs will also be directly responsible to the Vice Dean for Academic, Rural and Regional Affairs with responsibility for: Leadership, coordination and day to day operations of the WWAMI Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Title VII HRSA grant and the activities of the WWAMI AHEC Program Office including coordination with the WWAMI AHEC centers in western Washington, eastern Washington, Wyoming, and Idaho and close working relationships with the Alaska AHEC Program office and the Montana AHEC Program Office, as well as developing and maintaining strong relationships with rural health systems, hospitals and physicians; Represent the UWSOM in state and national organizations with a rural focus; Other administrative assignments as requested by the Vice Dean for Academic, Rural and Regional Affairs.

The position may be based in Seattle or in the WWAMI region and will require travel.
: Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy degree with graduate training and board certification in a medical or surgical specialty by the American Board of Medical Specialties. Prior WWAMI experience is a requirement.
Work Experience Requirements: Minimum of five years of practice, with a preference for rural and/or community-based practice and experience in teaching medical students, as well as administration of medical student and rural programs.
Faculty Appointment and Compensation: This position will have a clinical faculty appointment appropriate for the background and experience of the incumbent at the rank of clinical instructor, clinical assistant professor, clinical associate professor, or clinical professor. The incumbent’s compensation shall be determined based upon the experience and qualifications of the incumbent.
